In the final of his three lectures on interfaith cooperation, Distinguished Visiting Guest Lecturer Dr. Eboo Patel, Founder and President of Interfaith Youth Core, will speak about how Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Christian faith called him to stand up for the Jews during the Holocaust. Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran Pastor and former student at Union Theological Seminary, was one of the highest profile resisters to the Nazi regime in his native Germany, a resistance deeply rooted in Christian conviction and for which he ultimately paid with his life. Dr. Patel will consider how Bonhoeffer’s reading of Christianity caused him to develop a theology of interfaith solidarity, and suggest that all the major faiths of the world contain resources and inspiration that call us to stand up for ‘the religious other’.
