Published on March 30, 2017.In January 2017, Union launched the Encore Transition Program, a semester-long curriculum designed for retirees and non-traditional students eager to make a change for the better in their lives, and in the world. Recent Encore graduate, Onita Estes-Hicks, 80, spoke with the New York Times’ Helen Stapinski, about how the program has given her the opportunity to contemplate her past and—perhaps just as important—her future. Two women stand side by side, smiling. One woman has gray hair and wears glasses, and the other has light brown hair and also wears glasses. A quote by Onita Estes-Hicks is displayed alongside the image, discussing the impact and significance of the Union for reconstruction.
