Biography
Rev. Dr. Wanda M. Lundy is a distinguished figure in the realm of education and community service, currently leading the 313+ Ancestors Speak Project. This initiative is dedicated to researching the identities of free and enslaved African people who rest in unmarked graves within the Siloam-Hope First (Old First) Presbyterian Church cemetery in Elizabeth, NJ. A pivotal aspect of this project includes the establishment of a monument to honor the memories of these individuals, along with their families and contributions to the history of Siloam-Hope First Presbyterian Church, as well as to the broader narratives of Elizabeth, New Jersey, and the United States.
Background and Experience
Hailing from Triana, Alabama, Rev. Dr. Lundy has dedicated 36 years to her calling as an ordained Presbyterian (USA) minister, gaining extensive experience across pastoral, institutional, and academic ministries. She made history as the first elected moderator of the newly formed Northeast New Jersey Presbytery, which integrated the Elizabeth, Newark, and Presbytery of the Palisades Presbyteries.
Global Engagement
Rev. Dr. Lundy’s commitment to global outreach is exemplified by her travel experiences, which have taken her to countries such as Cuba, Brazil, Israel, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Honduras, Senegal, and Korea. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, she successfully led annual week-long journeys titled “Going Home: Civil Rights and Southern Religion,” exploring the rich historical tapestry of North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Washington, DC.
