Greater Atlanta Area Alum Event & Address by Dr. Gary Dorrien

On Thursday, February 15, at 10:45 a.m., Dr. Gary Dorrien, Union’s Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics, will be in the Atlanta area to deliver the Founder’s Day Keynote Address at Morehouse College in Atlanta on the occasion of the College’s 151st Founder’s Day Convocation.

Dr. Dorrien’s address, titled “Breaking White Supremacy: Morehouse and the Black Social Gospel,” will be given at 10:45 a.m. in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel.

There will be an opportunity for alums to meet and greet Dr. Dorrien following the program.

Professor Dorrien’s brand new book Breaking White Supremacy: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Black Social Gospel has recently been released by Yale University Press. In this book, Professor Dorrien continues to unearth the heyday and legacy of the black social gospel, a tradition with a shimmering history, a martyred central figure, and enduring relevance today. This part of the story centers around King and the mid-twentieth-century black church leaders who embraced the progressive, justice-oriented, internationalist social gospel from the beginning of their careers and fulfilled it, inspiring and leading America’s greatest liberation movement.
