This Intensive course will provide step by step instruction on how to paint a Holy Icon in the ancient Byzantine manner.  Christine Hales is an Iconographer/teacher who will demonstrate the many facets of this beautiful process.  Individual instruction in a prayerful atmosphere. You do not have to be an artist to write an Icon!  Christine is a patient teacher who can open the world of egg tempera painting to beginners and advanced students alike. All materials are provided and a finished Icon will be taken home at the end of the class.  Christine’s website is: www.newchristianicons.com. Limited to 12 students.

After getting a BFA in Painting from Mass Art in Boston, Christine Hales painted since the early 1970’s, living in a loft in Chelsea and studying ballet until the 80’s when she moved to a small village in upstate New York where she now lives and works.  Her art has been shown in national and international galleries and museums.  Her work is included in public collections at  TRW, Sands Hotel, St. Luke’s Church, St. Vincent’s Church, Albany, NY, Graymoor Monastery, Guideposts, Citibank, and in many private collections.

Christine has received grants from the Greene County Council of the Arts,  Maine Arts Council, C.E.T.A. Nantucket, and Greene County Arts in Residence.   She has been in residence at the Vermont Studio Center, trained at the Florence Academy of Fine art, Florence, Italy, and studied classical ballet in NYC for twenty years.  She has received numerous awards for excellence in painting.
