This is a three-day intensive sexuality education training focused on preparing the participant to facilitate any of the three adult-level Our Whole Lives workshop series.

The Our Whole Lives lifespan sexuality education curricula was created by the Unitarian Universalist Association and United Church of Christ (in conjunction with SEICUS, Planned Parenthood and other evidence-based organizations.) It is described as curricula that “provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.” The curricula promote four core values: self-worth, sexual health, responsibility, justice and inclusivity. Participants will learn how to help the young adults/adults/older adults define their own sexual values within the framework of their faith.

This training is important in the life of the modern church. Sexuality raises personal, communal, and theological issues for every religious community. This adult-focused training will provide opportunities for the participants to discern what their personal sexual values are while preparing to take on the questions of their community.

The training has an evaluative component, and successful participants will receive approval from the UUA and UCC to facilitate these workshops in congregational and other settings.

Participants will need to familiarize themselves with the Our Whole Lives curriculum for this level – young adults/adults/older adults prior to attending the training. The intensive experience will not go workshop-by-workshop through each curricula but rather through experiences that will prepare participants to appropriately deliver the curricula broadly. This will include some activities and learning experiences from the OWL workshops but the focus is on the broad competencies needed to facilitate these workshops. Familiarity with the curricula itself will prepare participants to arrive fully informed about the scope of the material.

Participants will need to also purchase the accompanying Sexuality and Our Faith manuals. The United Church of Christ offers a 25% discount on these materials for people who are attending an Our Whole Lives training. Call UCC Resources at 1-800-537-3394 and request that discount.

Attendance is required for the whole training (all three days). No exceptions will be made. The facilitators will send a welcome letter with more information upon registration.

This training is sponsored by The Riverside Church and Union Theological Seminary.
