Learning how to best engage technology and the digital space into one’s ministry is a 21st-century tool.  Putting the “Digital” in Your Ministry is a two-day intensive during which participants will learn what digital ministry is and how to develop it for their vision of ministry.  The first half of the course will focus on the relevant elements of digital citizenry and the seven digital literacies for ministry which will inform how participants can best engage with technology and the digital space through their vocation.  The second half of the course will be dedicated to specific technologies from social media platforms and websites to content creation including graphic design with Canva, YouTube/Vimeo and video editing tips, getting started with podcasting, and live streaming.  This course is designed with faith leaders in mind.  The course is also taught by a Tech Chaplain who has years of experience addressing technological issues by centering people and helping them move from fear and anxiety around technology to empowerment.

About Shamika Goddard
Shamika is a person who is passionate about people and technology! She was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, and is the oldest of four children.   After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in African and African-American studies in 2011, she served a year with AmeriCorps in New York City.  She went on to study technology and ethics by developing technowomanism at Union Theological Seminary in the city of New York. There, she also created and developed the concept of a Tech Chaplain. She received her Master of Divinity from there in 2017. She currently attends the University of Colorado at Boulder as a doctoral student in their Information Science department and is studying technology, ethics, and social justice issues. On Juneteenth 2020, she launched the Tech Chaplaincy Institute.  This organization uses the best practices of pastoral care and chaplaincy to serve faith communities who are open and affirming, social justice-oriented, progressive as well as mission-driven organizations with their everyday tech needs.  Tech Chaplains meet people where they are and help usher them to where they want to be with their technology with dignity and grace.  Their goal is to replace fear and anxiety around technology with empowerment.
