Trailblazers 2019 Preaching Series Shades of Black: Empowering Voices of Liberation will celebrate and reflect on the prophetic life and ministry of The Rev. Dr. James H. Cone, and the liberative theologies his scholarship and teaching helped birth. Rev. Dr. Mikael Elam ’07 will discuss how black liberation theology helped shape the field of SGL/LGBTQ theology
Rev. Dr. Michael Elam, recently received his Doctorate in
Ministry in Interfaith Theology from The New Seminary.
He’s a graduate of Union Theological Seminary where he
received his MDiv in Systematic Theology.
He is a lecturer and educator who has lectured at various seminaries, including Drew University, New York Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, Howard University School of Divinity, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Divinity, and New Brunswick Seminary on the topic “The Genesis of Sodom and Gomorrah: A Same Gender Loving Theological Reflection.”
Rev Dr. Elam ministers in several capacities at St. Paul Community Baptist Church, as the current the Director of Wounded Healers, a spiritually based 12- Step recovery ministry, and serves on the MAAFA Ministerial Team. For the past two years, Rev. Dr. Elam has served as a resident theologian at SAGE Harlem a senior program for elder LGBT People of
Color.
