Presented by Rev. Dr. Serene Jones

Rev. Dr. Serene Jones has been invited to the Visiting Scholar Program at the Village Church on Mission Road in Prairie Village, Kansas.

On March 9 and 10, 2018, Dr. Jones will explore the topic, What is True?: Theology and the American Story. In her essay, “How to Heal the Spiritual Pain in America” in the Sept. 7, 2016, issue of TIME magazine, Dr. Jones says, “As a theologian, I think about stories… As Americans, we have a ‘theological’ national story.” She goes on to discuss how our story omits the negative, why this omission is unhealthy, and the need for a new story of our aspirations, successes, tragedies, and errors.

Dr. Jones will present her topic in three sessions:

  • Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. – Session 1: Sin
  • Saturday, March 10 at 9 a.m. – Session 2: Grace; Session 3: Redemption

Friday or Saturday only tickets are $20.  Combination tickets for both Friday and Saturday sessions will be discounted to $30 at checkout.

The Visiting Scholar Program is committed to bringing well known Bible Scholars and Theologians to the Village Church, to offer fresh and challenging new ideas, to deepen understanding of the wisdom of the past, and to stimulate hunger to know more fully the God we worship and rely upon. The Visiting Scholar Program is sponsored by Presbyterian Women at Village Presbyterian Church.
