The Asheville, NC Alumni/ae Chapter welcomes Dr. Rima Vesely-Flad ’13 for a timely talk, titled:
Racial Purity and Dangerous Bodies: Moral Pollution, Black Lives, and the Struggle for Justice

Dr. Vesely-Flad’s talk will be followed by Q&A, refreshments, and conversation. This will be a time to connect, reconnect, and share our hopes for future gatherings, as well as for a more peaceful, just world.

Dr. Rima Veseley-Flad ’13 is professor and director of Peace and Justice Studies at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Ethics from Union Theological Seminary and founded the Interfaith Coalition of Advocates for Reentry and Employment (ICARE) in New York State. Her research is on the religious and philosophical origins of the construct of race and anti-racist social movements against disproportionate policing and imprisonment. Rima directs Warren Wilson’s partnership with a local women’s prison and coordinates a program in which Warren Wilson offers credit-bearing classes to incarcerated students.


Location Details:
The Battery Park is on the north end of the Grove Arcade and southwest of the Basilica of St. Lawrence in downtown Asheville. Metered street parking with some spaces for handicapped parking are available or city parking at the Wall Street Garage, the Thomas Wolfe Civic Center Garage, or the Rankin Avenue Garage, within two or three blocks of the Battery Park.
