Homelessness Impact Fellowship Program

Union Theological Seminary and the Coalition for the Homeless have joined together to develop the next generation of leaders to address homelessness through the Homelessness Impact Fellowship Program. This innovative program will focus on homelessness in the areas of prevention, shelter, outreach, and permanent housing.

The inaugural cohort of Homelessness Impact Fellows will be made up of students from Union and other institutions who are passionate about addressing homelessness. Union students will receive priority and alumni/ae of Union are also eligible for the program. Recruitment for the inaugural cohort is now closed.

Program Details

  • The program offers a combination of study, reflection and community engagement to provide students an opportunity to develop and apply social impact skills in the context of New York City’s historic homelessness crisis.
  • Fellowship awardees receive a fully-funded, exceptional educational and practical experience – including fieldwork with the Coalition for the Homeless – as well as a stipend.
  • The inaugural Homelessness Impact Fellowship cohort students will begin the program in the Fall of 2018 with coursework completed in six, two-hour sessions over the course of the term and a one-day intensive session.
  • Placements will be completed in New York City with the Coalition for the Homeless in the Spring of 2019.

Fall Co-Curricular Program Details:
Based on the feedback we received throughout the application process, we’ve adjusted the schedule to facilitate more in-depth conversation and face-to-face group dynamics. The updated schedule will include three in-person sessions during the Fall semester.

Spring Internship Program Details:
Fellows will begin internships in the Spring with Coalition for the Homeless and complete a minimum of 37.5 hours over the course of the term. Participants can select between two internship project Shelter Monitoring Program and Street Homelessness Survey Program.
