Serene Jones Center
for Religion and Democracy

A new public square for religion and democracy.

A landscaped courtyard with benches, trees, shrubs, and lampposts sits in front of a brick building with large windows. A curved pathway borders the grass, and the ADG logo is in the lower right corner.

For eighteen years, President Serene Jones helped shape Union Theological Seminary into one of the country’s leading voices at the intersection of faith, justice, public life, and moral imagination.

The Serene Jones Center for Religion and Democracy will carry that work forward.

Rooted at Union and grounded in deep interreligious engagement, the Center will convene scholars, organizers, artists, faith leaders, and public thinkers to engage the urgent questions shaping democratic life today.

At a time of deep fragmentation and rising authoritarianism, the Center will help cultivate the moral, spiritual, and intellectual life necessary for democratic futures to flourish.

Union alumni are shaping movements for justice and democracy across the country and around the world. That work now has a home on Union’s campus in New York City.

“Look to progressive movements around the world. You’ll find Union graduates among those shaping them.”
— President Serene Jones
