On behalf of the Office of Student Affairs, and the entire Union Community, welcome back to another academic semester at Union Theological Seminary! Whether it’s to complete your M.Div., or continue your M.A., we wish you with good tidings of a safe return back, and blessings for a breathtaking and soul-shaking new term.
Below is a comprehensive look at everything returning students must complete.
The relevant data/demographic information collected in your orientation paperwork will be shared with administrative offices at Union for educational purposes. We ask that you provide consistent information, particularly when sharing your legal name.

Student Affairs | Deadline: ASAP
The Office of Student Affairs serves as advocates for our students during their time at seminary. Often we are the best place to go when you’re not sure what to do or whom to ask. Questions about Student Affairs? Email The Office of Student Affairs at [email protected].
All returning students must complete the following forms:
OPTIONAL FORMS: Returning students should complete the following form if their information has changed since entering Union.
- Submit a Disability Certificate
- Submit an SMS enabled phone number for Union Emergency Notification System
Financial Aid | DEADLINE: Within 2 weeks
Sign and submit your financial aid award letter. You will receive your award letter in your Union e-mail account from Melissa Desravines. The letter must be signed and submitted within two weeks from the date that you receive it.

Union Housing | PRIORITY DEADLINE: March 31
The housing application process is now open to returning students. Review the Housing Handbook which will give you information for living on campus including eligibility, policies and procedures and rates. Housing options in McGiffert Hall will no longer be available as of August 1st as that building will go off-line in anticipation of our vacating the building later that fall. Housing options will only be available in Hastings Hall.
To access the Summer and Academic Term housing applications, you will need to log into your SONIS account and use your Union provided UNI. Once you log into SONIS, on the left vertical menu, under ‘General‘, select ‘Home‘. On the far right of the screen, you will find the Housing Applications. Housing on campus is only available to current students and incoming students who have paid their deposit. Assignments are made by Union Housing on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The application deadline for the 2023-2024 Academic term is March 31st. The deadline to apply for summer housing is April 15th. If you are graduating in May and need to stay on campus for an additional month, please be aware that summer rent will be due by May 15th.
If you are not applying for summer housing, you will need to remove all of your belongings by May 31st.
