Religion & Public Life

The RPL Impact

• Critical Religious Literacy

Religion is a foundational part of human experience and provides the deep narratives that inform many individual and cultural worldviews. In a time of growing polycrisis, we believe that understanding the role of religion is more urgent than ever. We also position ourselves in a discipline of hope, and appreciate the role religion has in motivating people towards imaginative moral futures.

• Mission & Vision

RPL promotes "critical religious literacy" which is a method for how to understand the role of religion in human experience. Our program focuses on the many ways religion manifests in the public sphere, strategically examining the relationships between religion, culture, and power, with a focus on practical application in service of building a just world at peace.

• Just Peacebuilding

We do not think religion is the problem or the solution. Rather, religion is an important part of experience that must be considered with other factors, such as economics, politics, culture, and history, to fully understand current global realities and imagine alternative futures. We structure our work so that people can become active agents to contribute to human dignity and planetary flourishing.
