(Rain: James Chapel)
Commencement Event Schedule
Tuesday, May 10th
Unitarian Universalists (UU) Commissioning
This Year-End Blessing ceremony is now a tradition for Unitarian
Universalists studying at Union. Come celebrate the great vibrancy of this
liberal faith by honoring those UU seminarians who are graduating this
year and by helping us commission them in the ministries they are poised
to offer the wider world.
Wednesday, May 11th
Students of Color Commissioning
The Student of Color Commissioning is a celebration of the achievements
and a rite of passage for graduates of color as they prepare to engage
with the world beyond the halls of Union Theological Seminary. This
special commissioning embraces and mirrors ceremonies that signify a rite
of passage in many cultural histories of communities of color.
Thursday, May 12th
PhD Dinner (immediately following)
(Only PhD Graduates & their Partners, Pres. Jones, Dean Boys & Advisors)
FIERCE and Queer Commissioning
FIERCE and Queer Caucuses sponsor the annual Queer Commissioning to
celebrate the accomplishments and promise of self-identified lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) graduating students.
For some graduates, the Queer Commissioning presents one of the few, if
only, opportunities they may have to openly acknowledge the truths of
their sexual/gender identities and their lives as people of faith.
