Anika Gibbons produced, wrote, and directed a documentary short entitled “Journey To Liberation: The Legacy of Womanist Theology and Womanist Ethics at Union Theological Seminary.” In the true tradition of African-American storytelling, the documentary looks at the radical spirituality and scholarship within the lives of the founding mothers of Womanist theology and Womanist ethics.

While receiving her BFA in screenwriting at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, she worked at Spike Lee’s 40 Acres and Mule Filmworks. More recently she wrote and developed projects for New Line Cinema, Showtime Networks, the SyFy Channel, VH-1, and HBO. In addition to her work for MTV and Comedy Central, she was a coordinating producer at the Oxygen television network and an associate producer for the SyFy Channel.

Anika Gibbons was a unique talent and forceful personality. She will be sorely missed.

Prayers for Anika’s family.
