Union’s Office of Alumni/ae Relations invites you for a community coffee chat at Swallow Café on January 18, 2019, from 1:00 -2:30 pm. These informal gatherings will feature students, alums and/or faculty members who will share insights into their field of study, expertise, and life on campus. Union will purchase your refreshments.

This coffee chat will feature Brandon Harrington ’18. Brandon graduated from Union in May 2018 with a Master of Arts in Theology. He currently resides in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where he moved during his program after living on campus for two semesters. While at Union, Brandon worked at the Burke Library as a Circulation Assistant. At the Burke, he was heavily invested in the library’s improvement and passionate about assisting patrons with research.

While Brandon planned to transition into a Ph.D. program following Union, his experience at the Burke motivated him to seek employment with libraries in NYC. In July, he accepted a Library position at the Starrett City branch of Touro College. Here, Brandon independently runs Starrett City’s small lending library: providing reference assistance, handling circulation and acquisitions, maintaining the collection, and teaching a variety of library instruction sessions. While questions of theology are no longer the centerpiece of his day-to-day, the unofficial pastoral education that he received while living and struggling at Union has proven an invaluable resource for fostering a supportive learning community – because books are only one small part of libraries.

Please email Kevin Bentley, Manager of Alumni/ae Relations at kbentley@uts.columbia.edu to let him know if you plan to attend.
