On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Washington Football Team president Jason Wright and retired NFL star Brian Banks (TBC) will join ESPN’s Lisa Salters and Rev. Kelly Brown Douglas of Union Theological Seminary for a conversation about how to harness the power of two of America’s most sacred Sunday traditions — church and football — to advance racial equity and social justice.

With the country sharply divided along racial lines, the event examines the influence the church and the NFL have on Americans and the responsibility both institutions have in advancing social justice issues. The thought-provoking conversation will take a clear-eyed look at the ways both institutions have fallen short on racial issues in the past — and offer concrete suggestions for how they can each work to help create a more equitable and just future, particularly for communities of color.
