Please join President Serene Jones for Knowledge and Nourishment: Pastoral Care and COVID-19, on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at 12:30 pm EST. In this 45-minute webinar, President Jones will be joined by Union alums Rev. Brenda Ford ’08 and Kaytlin Butler ’17. Rev. Ford has served as the Protestant Chaplain at SUNY Stony Brook University and a chaplain at Nassau County Correction Center. Butler serves as a chaplain at Mount Sinai Hospital and was recently profiled in The New Yorker.

Together, they will share their stories of how they have been providing pastoral care and responding in this moment of COVID-19 and the age of socially distancing.

Rev. Brenda Ford graduated from Union in May 2008 with a Master of Divinity in Church & Society / Practical Theology. She is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In addition to pastoral appointments, Brenda has received calls to serve in the field of chaplaincy. Her work in chaplaincy includes university chaplaincy (Protestant Campus Ministry at Stony Brook University); jail chaplaincy ( NCCC) and on-call hospital chaplaincy. In 2017 Rev. Ford was called to serve as Chaplain at Nassau County Correction Center were her ministry reaches violent and non-violent women offenders through individual and group pastoral care, teaching, mentoring, and worship services.

Kaytlin Butler is a staff chaplain at Mount Sinai Hospital where she works as part of the inpatient hematology/oncology teams. She received her Masters of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and is an alumnus of the University of Georgia. Kaytlin is a candidate for ministry in the Presbyterian Church USA. Her work providing spiritual care has been featured in The New Yorker, Time Reports With Katie Couric, BBC World News Service, CNN, and The Interfaith Youth Core.
